Some newbie questions...

Postby bksd » Sat Jul 24, 2010 7:41 pm

Hi,

I've been lurking on here for awhile now & decided to finally post on here. I'm very interested in going to one of these investigation events. I probably won't be going to one this year (hopefully next year), and was wondering if someone could answer some of my questions...

1. What should I expect going to one of these events? (Since I'll probably be a little nervous...)
2. How do the groups work? (Are they chosen already?) (Do we pick who's in our group?)
3. How long do you get to investigate with the TAPS members that are at the event?
4. What do the TAPS members do during the investigation? (Do they stand back & observe?) (Are they investigating with us?)
5. Overall, is it worth the amount of money to go to one of these events?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me any info. on this. :)

(Don't be surprised if I post more questions. lol )

hey there! welcome :) let me try to answer your questions because i've been to A LOT of these events :)
1...you should expect very friendly and approachable staff (IEM) and guests (TAPS members, etc). everyone is there to learn, experience, and have a good time...and that's what always happens!! :)
2...the groups are NOT predetermined. you are sorted by wristbands when you check in for the meet and greet. if you are with people, you will be grouped with them.
3...investigations usually run from 9pm to 2am give or take. each section is about an hour and then you rotate. the celebrities are usually stationed at an area that you will rotate to, so that you get to investigate each section and learn from each celebrity. some celebrities take a more direct approach with you (ie: john zaffis did a hack box session and an evp session with the groups at 2 investigations i went to), while others are there to answer questions and guide you (ie: steve usually is there to make sure everyone is ok and answer any questions)
4...think i kinda answered that...most of the celebrities are there to answer questions and help people out, they don't really investigate since they do that all the time
5...i believe it is worth the money! i've always learned so much, made INCREDIBLE friends, and been to some AMAZING places thanks to IEM!! my recommendations are if they sell gift certificates this year again...GET ONE! also, fort mifflin is my favorite location to investigate! but i've never been to an event where i didn't like the location...so any event you choose, you should be good :)

hope this helps...let me know if you have any more questions :)

Thanks for the feedback!!

Just a few more questions... :)

1. How many people are there in a group?
2. (Sorry if you touched upon this already)...But, what's typically done during the investigation? (Are we free to do whatever or are there group EVP sessions, etc. going on?)
3. What happens after rotating through every section? (Are we allowed to go back to a particular section again?) (Will the TAPS member assigned for said section still be there, too?)
4. What are the gift certificates? (Sorry...I'm new to this) lol
And, who/where is the money going to for these events?

Thanks! (I'll probably stumble across some more questions to ask again...) :D

no problem :) let me try to answer these the best i can, and if i can't, then i'm sure jon will step in! :)
1...there are usually about 20-25 people in a group, but it really depends upon how many tickets are sold and how many groups there are...that depends upon how many celebrities and the size of the location i think
2...during the investigation you are free to use your own techniques...don't worry, you won't be the only new person at any event...there are always newbies :) i'm still VERY amateur and learn something new every time i go! some people like the k2 sessions and others like the evp sessions and i'm sure there are others that do other things
3...after rotating through each section, if there is time left over, you can usually return to your favorite section...sometimes the rotations take the whole night but that depends on the size of the location...the celebrities stay at their assigned section, i believe
4...last december marc from IEM sold gift certificates that were good for ANY event this year no matter what the cost...so it's a good way to get into the more expensive events. the money i think goes for paying the celebrities and the location, other expenses and i'm sure IEM makes a profit...and in all honestly i really am not sure about this...that's just my educated guess....jon will have to answer that one better :)

hope that helps!

Thank you again! :)

(Just to clarify): The more TAPS members at the event, the smaller the group number?
Who decides when we're doing an EVP/K2 session? (Is it a TAPS member?)
And, if there's time left after rotating through every section & we go back to a "favorite section", the TAPS member assigned for that section will still be there?

---By the way, sorry for sounding so confused lol. This is just all new to me, so I'm trying to visualize how these events run/actually are. I usually don't have these many questions to ask about anything, really... But I appreciate you spending your time to answer them. :)

really it's no problem!! if you REALLY want to know how they run, you should read my blogs/notes on fb about some of the events...i've been told they give a really clear picture LOL

YOU determine how you want to investigate...do what you feel comfortable with or hook up with some people who are already doing a k2 or evp session or whatever.

the groups have never been bigger than 25 (at any of the events i've been to). the number of celebrities usually only determines how many sections there are. and i do believe that they stay in their sections all night even during the "free for all" after you've rotated through each section and there's time left over.

you should look me up on facebook and then you can see pictures of the events too! www.facebook.com/corrynp :)

hope this helps!

Money made is dispersed to many outfits. A good percentage goes towards the location which is usually a good chunk that they need as they usually jsut make their money through donations usually. Insurance, lecture hall rental, talent costs, etc is the rest.
